Back to VINYL!!!

I have a whole bunch of old vinyl, including a few 78s, in my collection. However, it's been at least a decade since I've been able to enjoy them.

Teac is now satisfying throwbacks in Japan with this new CD/LP/USB player. If this beautiful '50s-styled bookshelf system can record from LP to USB, I'm sold. I suspect this will make it over the Pacific in time for holiday gift giving to nostalgic Boomers.

Strung out on heaven's high...hitting an all time low.

Dubya is now down to 32% approval rating, with 60% disapproval and 8% "dunno" in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll. I think that Dubya's down to the Koolaid drinkers now.

And yet he still remains in office. Dammit, why can't we have a vote of no confidence and kick his smelly ass out?!?

Anime Los Angeles 2007: It's all happenin'!

Ganked from A-LA founder Chaz Boston Baden's LiveJournal:

Anime Los Angeles 3: Membership cap of 1800
26-28 January 2007, at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, one last time. (In 2008 we'll be in Burbank.) We'll be using the entire hotel, both sides, all weekend. Pre-register so you don't miss out -- we expect to start turning people away some time on Saturday. Make your check or money order payable to Anime LA. $25 special rate expires 15 June 2006. Send it to ANIME LA, PO Box 17522, Anaheim CA 92817-7522. (Paypal address available on request; we haven't got the button hooked up on the website yet.)

Lower rates for 4 people in the room: Rates at the hotel will be $99 plus tax, single/double/triple/quad. (But please don't try to reserve your room just yet, we haven't got everything lined up there yet.)

Our Professional Guest of Honor is Svetlana Chmakova, who does Dramacon for Tokyopop.

Please note our weapons policy prohibits replica (or real or realistic) guns; leave your Airsofts and your orange-tipped plastic weapons at home. Our apologies to all the Resident Evil fans out there, and anyone who can't bear to be parted from their toy guns for the weekend.

January's Anime Los Angeles rocked the house...this is going to be even better. But mind that membership cap, folks...this con has been doubling in attendance with each one...Chaz had to put the cap in to make sure that A-LA doesn't overgrow the venue this year. Kitaa!

I think I'm going to survive this semester. It's going to be tough, but I'm going to.

Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday I'm going to be doing the survey for Social Psych. I have a literature review to turn in on Wednesday. Then the final paper will be due on Monday. I also have lots of work to do for Self & Society. I still have to plan the time to take the final for Developmental Psych, and I will be receiving my take-home final for Early Modern Political Philosophy on Wednesday Night. And oh yeah, got a screenplay for a short subject to write.

Do I have what it takes to face down this mountain of work? Goddess I hope so.

I'm still having some weird residual GI problems. However, I'm toughing it out until the end of the semester. Unless I drop first.

I'm feeling quite a bit better and this helped:

"Furry Happy Monsters" -- REM and The Muppets (From Sesame Street)

I picked a truly WRONG time to be sick. Not that anytime is the right time, but this is the totally worst time, man.

The reason why I haven't posted much is because I've been struggling mightily with a stomach flu that became a full-on flu. I've never had that happen...stomach bugs usually stay stomach bugs, and flus usually stay flus. But it happened to me.

I think that's why I was so addle-pated this last week. This was just coming on and it was screwing with my cognitive abilities first. The almost-all-nighter I did on Saturday Night was the last straw, and my body said "OK, you wanna play rough, huh? Try this, biotch..."

Anyway, I think I turned a corner as of this morning. Food is starting to seem tasty to me again, not just "Food? What a concept!" I don't feel as bloated, although I'm still experiencing the trots big time and food seems to not stay in my system very long. The worst was the achiness from last night...if someone offered me Heroin while I was trying to get to sleep with my neck and shoulders crying Ave Maria and shooting pains down my arms, I would have taken them up on it. Flu achiness is opportunistic...it knows where your pre-existing injuries are and makes them flare up big time. I have to say this was the worst pain I've felt since I had gallstones. I finally braved taking Ibuprofen after downing a yogurt...I was trying to avoid the stuff because my guts were already torn up. The Ibuprofen took the jagged edge off but didn't completely get rid of the pain.

Oh yeah: I had a 100 degree temp last night. Not significant for most, but when your normal body temperature is 97.5 or 97.7, 100 is significant.

If this had only been able to be held at bay until the second week of May, though. The timing hurts. By the second week of May, Spring 2006 session at Woodbury would be in the books. :P

!Somos todos los Americanos!

Saturday, April 08, 2006

It might be my addle-brained state, but this made me laugh big time:

Star Wars (The Original, aka Episode IV) in 30 Seconds, acted out by sarcastic bunnies.

The bun-buns also rip Brokeback Mountain a new a-hole, plus Resevoir Dogs (watch the unbleeped one unless you are under Mom 'n Dad's roof) and Pulp Fiction gets really good lagomorphic deconstruction as well. Watch and enjoy. Oh yeah, you need Flash to see it, but most people have it at this point.

My brain is not functioning tonight.

I need to finish two presentations due Sunday afternoon for Developmental Psych, do some serious thinking about how to do my research assignment for Social Psych, and write a psycho-autobiography for Self & Society. I also need to write a first full draft of my script for Scene & Story. (it's for a short, not a full feature, thankfully) There are other projects I need to do.

It looks like tomorrow I need to really pull myself together and write like a motherfucker.

I wish I was a bit more "with it" tonight.

A dispatch from Bizarro World, as the facade begins to crack:

Facing down the Evil Empire: Quicktime video here as a scripted Bush event goes off-script. Courageous Carolinian Harry Taylor stood up and asked the questions many of us want to. Amazingly, Taylor was not hauled off to Gitmo after this.

Here it is...the ad the GOP does NOT want you to see.

Doesn't Russ Feingold look downright Presidential in this ad? No wonder the Red Team canned it.

BREAKING NEWS: En masse resignations in the Bush Administration!!!!

Dateline: Washington, DC, 4/1/2006, 9AM EST AP

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, and his Vice President Dick "Darth" Cheney, have jointly resigned following the frogmarching of the brains of their operation, Karl Rove, out of the West Wing. Condileeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and many other cabinet-level aides have also resigned.

An extraordinary joint session of Congress has been called to deal with the Constitutional Crisis this unprecidented event has provoked. However, Congress will be operating on a smaller-than-normal quorum because many of the GOP Senate and House leadership have also resigned, led by Dr. Bill "Kitty-killer/Frosty piss" Frist.

"There are so many people who have decided to 'take one for the team' in the Republican Party that the Democratic Party may have a temporary majority in both houses of Congress. I'm so excited! This is beautiful!" said Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA).

There are so many Christian Right-connected individuals who have resigned today that the most popular term for the day's events that is kicking around DC is "The Rapture."

UPDATE 9:30pm...as if you haven't guessed...APRIL FOOLS.
I wish this indeed was the case, but unfortunately this isn't happening. At least not yet.
